Description
Nuclear fission plays a crucial role in r-process (rapid neutron capture process) nucleosynthesis in the Universe. However, the theoretical description of fission for neutron-rich nuclei remains incomplete, and many aspects of the underlying physics are still not fully understood. In this talk, I will first review recent progress in astronomical observations and nucleosynthesis studies, highlighting the importance of fission and the types of nuclear data required to advance our understanding of the r-process. I will then discuss how fission properties evolve toward increasingly neutron-rich nuclei, based on dynamical model calculations for uranium isotopes. The calculations are performed using a practical dynamical framework for nuclear fission. Finally, I will present an outlook on the impact that a comprehensive theoretical database of fission properties could have on future studies of r-process nucleosynthesis.
