This work presents the methodology and results of an experimental study on inelastic proton-induced excitations of a $^{64}Ni$ target at beam energy $E = 180 MeV$. The measurements were conducted at the Cyclotron Centre Bronowice (CCB) of the Henryk Niewodniczański Institute of Nuclear Physics PAN in Krakow. The experiment utilized a proton beam to excite the target nuclei, followed by the detection of inelastically scattered proton and gamma-rays emitted during the de-excitation process.
Protons were detected using the 30-detector $KRATTA$ array, while gamma radiation was recorded using a combination of four $LaBr_3(Ce)$ detectors and the PARIS array, which consists of $LaBr_3:NaI$ and $CeBr_3:NaI$ phoswich detectors. The data analysis involved energy and efficiency calibration, time-stability monitoring, and the application of timing corrections for precise coincidence event selection.
The core of the data treatment was the construction of E$^*$−E$_{\gamma}$ matrices, correlating the excitation energy determined from proton scattering with the energy of the subsequent gamma-ray de-excitation. These matrices enabled the identification of energy transitions in $^{64}Ni$, which were found to be consistent with NNDC database values. As the main results, gamma-ray spectra corresponding to transitions from excited states in $^{64}Ni$ directly to the ground state are presented. The main technical challenges encountered during the analysis are also discussed. These results serve as a foundational stage for future spectroscopic studies and the investigation of Pygmy Dipole Resonances (PDR) decay in $^{64}Ni$.
